Inaugural music January 22, 2009

Besides the obvious, another thing that I liked about the Inauguration was the musical selection. After some searching I was able to find the list of music played by the United States Marine Corps Band here. I especially liked Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Seventeen Come Sunday” which I actually played in college. I’ve embedded a recording from YouTube of this song below. I miss being in a band.

- Rascal Flatts – Too Good is True

Interesting combinations result when you have two people with very different tastes in music using the same computer.

The Friday Random 10 returns! If they start bumping against each other I’ll probably discontinue it again, but maybe this’ll help spur me to post more often. Kari’s CD collection has also been added to mine so there’s a little more diversity, especially in the country genre. Here we go!
- Lucky to be Here – Blessid Union of Souls
- Ben Folds Five – Cigarette
- Guns n’ Roses – Hair of the Dog
- Boston – My Destination
- Jo Dee Messina – Cover Me
- Sarah McLachlan – Sweet Surrender
- Shania Twain – I’m Outta Here
- Radiohead – No Surprises
- Sheryl Crow – Anything But Down
- LotR: The Two Towers OST – The King of the Golden Hall

A Christmas music experiment December 8, 2006

Chad Orzel is trying to find Christmas music that is actually good. He has a long list of songs he’s going to listen to, most of which I’ve never heard of before. I have heard some of the artists in the list before though such as the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Barenaked Ladies.
Looking through my music collection, I don’t think I have any Christmas music at all. I don’t care for the songs with religious themes although I still enjoy the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I still laugh when I hear “Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer” too. The music they play in grocery stores is the worst. And anything sung by a group of kids, unless they’re extremely talented, just grates on my ears. Let’s not leave out TV commercials either, as they have some of the cheesiest music out there.
Any Christmas music that you like and would recommend?
